The school can have up to 16 Governors appointed to the Governing Body. The role is a voluntary one and the Governors represent a variety of stake holders, the staff of the school, parents of children at the school, the local Foundation Diocesan Board of Education, the local community and the relevant local authority. The roles of the School Governing Board include the setting and monitoring of the strategic direction, policies and objectives of the school. These are reviewed on a frequent basis. The Governing Body also approves the school’s annual budget and assesses progress during the financial year against that plan. It also takes into consideration the outlook for the school’s finances in the coming years in order to have early warning of any potential issues. Governors act as “critical friends” of the school, both supporting and, on occasions, challenging the senior staff. The Governing Body works in partnership with the Headteacher and staff for the benefit of the whole school and every pupil. The monitoring of targets set and evaluating progress in raising standards aid delivery of the School Improvement Plan. The Governing Body is jointly accountable for the use of public funds, the quality of education provided and the wider contribution to the local community. The full Governing Body meets at least twice every term. There are two Committees (Finance, Personnel and Premises and the second is Curriculum and Pupil related matters) which also meet at least twice a term. There can be smaller groups of Governors appointed to working parties in relation to specific issues. Governors also take responsibility for an individual year group and monitor their progress through the school. Individual Governors make visits to the school, partly in relation to their year group responsibilities but also in respect of a number of matters. |
